Join Sue Kalab, artist and teacher to learn how to use watercolours to capture your love of the bush.
WHAT WILL HAPPEN?
You will enjoy learning about watercolour painting.
You’ll take home an artwork you’ll be happy with and ideas for future adventures.
You will paint some natural objects for practice and then work on a full piece of your choosing.
We’ll go for wanders at Kambarang in the Preston River Valley. Sherry, custodian of Kambarang, and Sue will take us on guided walks where we will learn more about the Jarrah/Marri forest and the plants, animals and birds that live there.
We will work in the comfortable cabin in the middle of Kambarang.
You will enjoy the mysteries of mixing and blending, and how it helps to know cool or warm, opaque or clear colours
You will learn you do not need an unlimited range of colours in your watercolour kit if you understand what you can do with just a few. For example, the intricacies of using the limited palettes that are reflected in the Australian bush such as eucalyptus greens, blue-greens, yellow-greens, smoky greens, moss greens, deep greens and light greens.
You will experience working spontaneously with wet-on-wet and then more slowly with wet-on-dry. Discover the value of ‘fairy water’ and ‘witches’ water’ to keep your colours pure.
You will learn Sue’s time-tested way of stretching naughty watercolour paper effectively.
You will take home a stretched piece of watercolour paper as well as your works.
