10 YEAR STRATEGIC PLAN 2017-2027
Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions will be overseeing the expansion of the Wellington National Park with the view to supporting tourism and recreation opportunities in the region. {2017-2018 WA State Budget, Vol 1, p 198}
Our vision is for an interactive park that enables people of all ages and abilities to access and engage with our beautiful Jarrah/Marri forests. A place where people can learn more about Noongar ways of caring for country, participate in citizen science volunteer programs or challenge themselves by doing something a little ‘wild and adventurous’.
This plan looks ahead 10 years and seeks to create a sustainable ecotourism industry in the Preston River Valley. It is based on 18 months of community and key stakeholder consultations and has been prepared by Promote Preston with assistance from David Kerr - Business Management & Training Services P/L. Graphic design was provided by Scott West. |

For every tourist dollar spent, 87 cents are generated in other parts of the economy

We have talked to many, many people from all levels of government, industry and the community over the last few months and our vision has expanded. What is clear is that a national park enables investments in ecotourism to be developed with certainty. It creates job opportunities for regional communities. You can download our formal proposal below. By expanding the Wellington National Park we will meet six of the key strategies in the Bunbury-Wellington & Boyup Brook regional tourism strategy including the creation of a tourism loop that will take in Bunbury, Donnybrook and Collie, as well as being a key link withing the South West tourism sector. In achieving our vision, Preston Valley will no longer be the 'forgotten valley' but a vibrant, world class eco-tourism destination that provides a prosperous future for us all.
