Great news!
Four and a half years ago we had a vision...Imagine a Greater Wellington National Park. Our vision is becoming with the support of the WA State Government, Collie-Preston MLA Mick Murray and the Environment Minister Stephen Dawson. As part of the state budget the WA Government has announced $3.35 million will be injected into the expansion of Wellington National Park. This funding will allow for the upgrading of roads and provide visitor facilities such as lookouts, tracks, trails, and campgrounds, while providing a greater level of protection for flora and fauna. This will provide a focus for tourism along major access routes and enhance opportunities for recreation and tourism along the southern boundary to the Preston River. The proposed areas also include registered Aboriginal heritage places and sites of other Australian cultural heritage. Four Aboriginal trainee park rangers to be employed. For more information read the full media release. To say we are delighted is an understatement. This really is a game changer for our community and the cornerstone of our strategic plan.
